Some parts could be frightening for kids and other parts are simply too mature, so the average child would not understand. I also think it is fairly essential to have read the books, or most of the plot won't make sense to you.This game is a fun mix of fantasy and strategy! Many hours of fun for 2-4 players, and each expansion adds a character, so up to 6 people!
