Twenty-five windows in the crown look out at the surrounding New York Harbor. Visiting the crown of the Statue of Liberty is a rewarding activity. Due to its extreme popularity, tickets to the crown must be reserved prior to visiting. There are a limited number of crown tickets per day.Crown access is limited due to safety and accessibility requirements and is reservation-based through the Statue City Cruises ticketing process. Depending on the time of year, reservations need to be acquired between four (4) to six (6) months in advance. Access to the crown is by stairs only.It took about 20 minutes, and it will depend on a) if you stop on floors to rest and b) how many people are at the top and how long they take to leave. They only let a certain amount up, and we had to wait about 10 minutes on the stairs before we could go onto viewing area for others to leave.

Start the climb: The climb is 393 steps which is about like climbing a 27-story tall building. Adults and kids in our group all did just fine but if you have someone who is not in good physical condition, they may want to sit this one out. The first 200+ steps will take you up the pedestal to the feet of the statue.

Is it worth climbing the Statue of Liberty : Climb the spiral staircase to the top of the statue and you will emerge in a little room up in the crown. You can look out the little windows and see some unique views of NYC and the bay. They really aren't the best views as the windows are small but it is definitely unique and worth the climb.

There are 215 steps or approximately 10 stories to climb to the top of the pedestal. There is an elevator for those who cannot use the stairs. Tickets to the pedestal are limited and can sell out in advance.
